Designing a Mobile Experience to Support Mentorship for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Indiana

Experience Strategy · Concept Development · User Journeys · Information Architecture · UX/UI Design · Mobile Experience Design

The BigApp was designed as a mobile mentoring and engagement platform for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana, helping strengthen communication, accountability, and engagement between mentors, students, parents, and program administrators. The app created a centralized digital experience for managing match relationships, tracking activities, supporting communication, and encouraging long-term participation within the mentoring program.

I partnered with agency and development teams to lead strategy, creative direction, and UX/UI design — helping shape the onboarding experience, user flows, interface systems, and overall product experience for the app.

My role focused on translating organizational goals, audience needs, and complex multi-user workflows into intuitive mobile experiences that supported communication, participation, engagement tracking, relationship management, and long-term adoption across multiple user groups through concept development, content strategy, information architecture, and visual design.

Creative Direction & Experience Strategy

Before visual design began, the work focused on defining how Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana should feel across every interaction — balancing trust, optimism, community impact, and long-term engagement.

The goal wasn’t simply to modernize the website, but to create an experience that better reflected the organization’s mission while helping multiple audiences — prospective mentors, families, donors, and community partners — quickly understand where they fit and how to take action.

Concept exploration focused on:

  • Establishing a clearer emotional narrative throughout the experience

  • Identifying opportunities to strengthen storytelling and connection

  • Creating a content structure that supported multiple audience journeys

  • Exploring visual approaches that felt human, welcoming, and scalable

  • Aligning mission, messaging, and user experience into one cohesive system

This strategic and concept-driven foundation informed the final UX/UI direction and helped shape an experience designed to build trust and encourage participation.
