Held Diedrich — Capabilities Brochure Illustration
Illustration · Editorial Illustration · Brand Illustration
Some capabilities brochures list services. This one told a story.
Held Diedrich is an integrated marketing firm targeting mid-level through C-suite decision makers. The brief was to build something that could hold that attention: a capabilities brochure with a strong creative concept at its center, not just a list of services.
The concept: Gulliver's Travels as a metaphor for the modern marketing landscape — the shifting of scale, perspective, and power that happens when a brand finds its footing in a world that doesn't always play by the same rules.
Each chapter of the brochure was paired with a fully original illustration, rendered in colored pencil on textured paper, with select pieces incorporating pencil, ink, and Photoshop. The result is a body of work that feels handmade and considered — nothing algorithmic, nothing stock, nothing that could have been produced any other way.
The Illustrations
Momentum — Gulliver wading through open water, towing an entire fleet of ships by rope with a single pull. A picture of what it looks like when one decisive action changes everything.
Discovery — A giant explorer stepping through the rooftops of Lilliput's tiny fortress city by lantern light, seeing what the inhabitants couldn't see from the ground.
Brobdingnag — Gulliver among the giants, perspective inverted, suddenly the smallest thing in the room. A reminder that scale is always relative.
Voyage to Lilliput — Gulliver pinned to the earth by a thousand tiny ropes, unable to move despite his size. The limits that accumulate when you're not paying attention.
Floating Islands of Laputa — A civilization of mathematicians and astronomers hovering above the earth, full of knowledge, short on practical application. Brilliant, untethered, slightly dangerous.
Communication — Gulliver's travelling box seized mid-air by a giant eagle. A new vehicle. An unexpected journey.
The Result
A capabilities piece that didn't just describe what the agency could do — it showed it. Every page a demonstration. Every illustration a conversation starter.

If you're building something that needs a mythology behind it — not just a logo — this is the kind of work I love most.
