A Map Rooted in Savannah’s Charm

*NOTE: This specific Savannah map is not available for purchase. I have had a lot of requests, but cannot sell this map. This map is not for sale because it was a custom map made for a specific client and is licensed to them. It is not a stock image that anyone else can purchase or license. I am simply showcasing this map in my portfolio as a past project to show what I can illustrate for future clients.

——-

For this particular map, I was inspired by the vibrant colors and layered history of Savannah in spring. The city comes alive with azaleas, Spanish moss, and architectural details that make every stroll feel cinematic. It felt only natural to capture that energy in linework and color.

The illustrated landmarks weave together a narrative of Savannah’s most iconic places: the SCAD Armory, Green-Meldrim House, Mercer Williams House, the soaring spires of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, Tybee Lighthouse, the hauntingly beautiful Bird Girl statue at Bonaventure Cemetery, the Forsyth Park fountain, Asendorf House, Telfair Museum, Cotton Exchange, and so many more. Each was drawn to balance accuracy with personality — a wink at the city’s charm rather than a rigid architectural rendering.

Beyond the Map: The Brand Board

Because a map is never just a map, I developed a full brand board to accompany this project. Inspired by Savannah’s pastel shutters, weathered brick, and leafy squares, we pulled together a cohesive color palette that feels both timeless and fresh. Elegant, legible typography grounds the playful illustrations, while a custom icon set, logos, and photography style guidelines tie everything into a complete system. The result was a brand toolkit that makes Savannah instantly recognizable whether on print materials, digital guides, or destination merchandise.

Why It Matters

This approach allows the illustrated map to live in many places: framed as a keepsake, used in marketing campaigns, printed on textiles or stationery, or handed out as a city guide. More than just wayfinding, it’s a celebration of Savannah’s heritage, its quirks, and its undeniable beauty.
